NACWAA Announces the Seventh Annual State Farm Women's Volleyball Classic Field for 2001
Wilmington, NC - The National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) is pleased to announce the selected host and teams for the seventh annual State Farm Women's Volleyball Classic. The 2001 State Farm Women's Volleyball Classic will be held on Friday and Saturday, August 24 and 25, at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. Joining Pacific in the Volleyball Classic will be the University of Nebraska, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Hawai'i.
"We, at the University of Pacific, are very proud to host this major national women's volleyball competition on our campus," Lynn King, UOP director of athletics,said. "We look forward to showcasing the best in women's volleyball."
Nebraska, the 2000 defending National Champion, was only the second team to go undefeated in a season. The Cornhuskers have four starters returning, including three 2000 AVCA All-Americans and previous AVCA Player of the Year Nancy Meendering, who sat out last year to train with the 2000 National Team. Wisconsin, ranked second at the end of 2000, has five of its starters returning and two AVCA All-Americans following last year's national runnerup finish to Nebraska.
Hawai'i, ranked third at end of 2000 and National Championship semifinalist, has five of its starters returning and includes an AVCA All-American First-Team Selection. Pacific, host of the Classic, was ranked eighth at the end of 2000 and has four starters returning including their AVCA All-American middle blocker.
"State Farm is proud to continue our relationship with NACWAA for the seventh annual Volleyball Classic. With our involvement with womenís sports, we think it is the right venue for us to be in," Dick Bugajski, State Farm Insurance Companies director of advertising, said.
Pairings and the television broadcast schedules will be announced later in the spring.
