NCAA Division I Volleyball Committee Recommending Change in Scoring Formats COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO - The NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee, meeting in Santa Fe, N.M., Feb. 5-8, will vote to recommend a change in the scoring format to the NCAA Championships Cabinet at its summer meeting.
The proposed scoring format recommendation will utilize a best three-out-of-five rally scoring to 30 points. Currently, all levels of women's collegiate volleyball use the traditional side-out scoring format to 15 points with rally scoring in the tie-breaking fifth game.
The volleyball committee will forward the scoring format change to the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports (NAGWS), the current rules governing body, at its Feb. 9-11 meetings in Reston, Va., and then on to the NCAA Championships Cabinet June 25-27. The recommendation, if approved by the NCAA Championships Cabinet, would go in effect for the 2001 championship season.
NCAA men's volleyball implemented the above recommended scoring format for its current 2001 season.
