Cynammon Burns
Assistant Coach, Loyola University-Maryland
AVCA: Who or what has made you want to pursue coaching?
Cynammon Burns: After graduating from American University, I couldn't imagine my life without volleyball and the positive impact my coaches (heads/assistants) had on my life. So, the first thing I did when I moved back to Dallas was find a middle school and club coaching job at my former middle school and club. After being a coach for only a couple of weeks I decided that I wanted to teach the game and have a positive impact on young girl's lives.
AVCA: Who or what has been your biggest coaching influence?
CB: Barry Goldberg, the head coach at American University, is my biggest coaching influence. I not only learned some valuable lessons in volleyball from Barry but I learned some incredible life lessons as well. Barry taught me that being a good person will go a much longer way than being a great coach. Being a great coach entails being a good person that is honest, forgiving, patient, nurturing and most of all loving. Taking the opportunity to get to know these young women and trying to make a positive impact in their lives.
AVCA: Please list your past and present coaching/playing experiences:
- Loyola University Maryland- Assistant Coach (2011-present)
- Victory Volleyball Club- Head Coach 12 National; Assistant Coach 14 National (2010-2011)
- Trinity Christian Academy- 7A Coach (2010)
- American University (2006-2009)
AVCA: What are you most looking forward to at the 2011 AVCA Annual Convention?
CB: I am looking forward to learning from some of the best coaches in the business now and some of the greatest volleyball coaches ever. I am looking forward to learning how to manage a team, learning new ways to teach certain skills, and more importantly wash drills and games to keep the players engaged for an entire season and spring.
