Long Beach State's Keri NishimotoKeri Nishimoto, a 5-7 senior setter for the top-ranked Long Beach State University 49ers (28-0), has been chosen the AVCA/Sports Imports Division I National Player of the Week for leading her team to a 5-0 record last week, including a victory over No. 20 BYU. Nishimoto averaged 14.00 assists, 0.56 blocks, 3.25 digs and 0.31 service aces in 16 games. She paced the 49ers to a .526 team attack percentage against Idaho in a three-game match, followed by a double-double with 45 assists and a season-high 17 digs against Utah State. Nishimoto tallied 41 assists in leading LBSU to a .457 hitting percentage against Weber State, then then charted 41 assists versus Pittsburgh. She totaled 53 assists, 15 digs and three blocks against BYU to allow the 49ers to go undefeated in the regular season. For the week, Nishimoto added 16 kills and a .519 individual attack percentage, as well as leading the 49ers to a .377 hitting percentage as a team for the week. LBSU swept its first four matches of the week before being extended to four games against BYU. The 49ers open the NCAA Tournament with San Diego State on Nov. 30.
