Sammi McCloud, a junior right side/opposite for Saint Louis, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award after helping lead her team to a 2-1 record last week in the Billiken Invitational, which included a major upset of then No. 3 Stanford. After a strong 13-kill performance in a four-set loss to then No. 19 Illinois, McCloud turned around and put away 17 kills, and added nine digs and three blocks in a four-set win over William & Mary. She followed that up with her best performance of the week, scoring a double-double with a match-high 19 kills and 14 digs in the Billikens' four-set win over the Cardinal to give Saint Louis the biggest win in the program's history. For the week, McCloud, who also earned All-Tournament honors, averaged 4.08 kills, 2.67 digs and 4.58 points per set. This is the first time an athlete from Saint Louis has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award. The Billikens are coached by Anne Kordes.
