Lauren Gibbemeyer, a sophomore middle blocker for then-No. 11 University of Minnesota, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. She earned the award after helping the Gophers to three wins last week, including two over nationally-ranked opponents. In Minnesota's three-set sweep of then-No. 4 California, Gibbemeyer hit .450 behind 11 kills in 20 attempts and two errors, while also getting three digs, three solo blocks and five block assists in the upset. In her next match, she had 15 kills, five digs one solo block and six block assists in a four-set win over then-No. 16 Cal Poly. Gibbemeyer closed out her week with six kills, 12 digs, one solo block and four block assists in a 3-0 win over Notre Dame. For the week, Gibbemeyer hit at a .296 clip, while averaging 3.2 kills, 2.0 digs, 2.0 blocks and 4.45 points per set. This is the sixth time an athlete from Minnesota has received the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week award. The Gophers are coached by Mike Hebert.
