Melissa Mahnke, a junior outside hitter for Mount Union College, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. Mahnke was named the Most Valuable Player of the Mount Union Invitational, after leading her team to four wins over the weekend. Offensively, her best match of the tournament was the team's first against Case Western, in which Mahnke tallied 21 kills on 35 swings with only four errors, for a .486 hitting percentage. She also produced two stellar all-around matches, one against Aurora, and again versus Case Western. In the Aurora match, Mahnke registered 13 kills on 28 swings, also adding 16 digs to her team's efforts. In the finale of the weekend against Case Western, she produced 15 kills and just one hitting error in 29 tries, and contributed 13 more digs. In four matches, Mahnke averaged nearly 4.67 kills and 3.33 digs per set, pacing her team with nearly five points per set. This is the first Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honor for a player from Mount Union. The Purple Raiders are coached by Leigh Ann Matesich.
