Beth Dangel, a senior outside hitter for Ashland, has been named Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. Dangel was instrumental in helping the Eagles to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Volleyball Tournament Championship, which included a victory over Findlay and upsets of two nationally ranked teams, then-#3 Hillsdale and then-#5 Grand Valley State. Dangel's best match came against previously undefeated Hillsdale, in which she put away 15 kills in 23 attempts for a .522 hitting percentage. She also added 10 digs and one block assist in the victory. She followed that up with a 14-kill, 15-dig performance in the Eagles' upset over Grand Valley State. For the week, Dangel, who earned MVP honors for the GLIAC tournament, averaged 3.70 kills per game, a .329 hitting percentage and 3.40 digs per game. Dangle is the first player from Ashland to earn the Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week honor. The Eagles are coached by Connie Surowicz.
