Yu Chuan Weng, a 5-9 senior outside hitter for 22nd-ranked BYU-Hawai'i (13-1, 3-1 Pacific West), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. She led the Seasiders to a 1-1 record last week with back-to-back 33-kill matches. Weng averaged 7.61 points, 7.33 kills and 4.11 digs per game while hitting .318 in two matches versus Hawai'i-Hilo. She tallied 33 kills, 26 digs and two block assists on Sept. 30 in a five-game loss to Hawai'i-Hilo. Weng helped the Seasiders avenge the loss in the rematch on Oct. 1 with 33 kills, 11 digs, one block, one ace and a .426 attack percentage. Weng's 33 kills in each match ties for second place in school history, and her 66 kills in consecutive matches is a school record. She averages 6.82 kills, 3.37 digs and 0.41 blocks per game this season while hitting .323. Weng is the fourth Seasider to earn the national honor. The BYU-Hawai'i head coach is Wilfred Navalta.
