LeAnne McGahuey, a 5-9 senior middle blocker for then-12th-ranked Central Washington University (6-2, 0-0 Great Northwest), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week. She hit a combined .432 in four matches last week, including victories over then-14th-ranked Grand Valley State and then-17th-ranked Ferris State. McGahuey hit .560 with 16 kills and two blocks versus Lake Superior State to start the week. She added 19 kills, five digs and two blocks versus GVSU on the second match of Sept. 2. McGahuey contributed 15 kills and five blocks while hitting .538 versus Ferris State on Sept. 3. She ended the weekend with 18 kills, three blocks and three aces against Hillsdale. McGahuey averaged 5.75 points, 4.86 kills, 0.86 blocks, 0.50 digs and 0.36 aces per game for the week. She is the first player from CWU to earn the national honor. The Central Washington head coach is Mario Andaya.
