Valerie Martinez, a 5-9 senior setter for 12th-ranked University of North Florida (9-4, 2-0 Peach Belt), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week after leading the Ospreys to a 4-0 record last week including an upset of eighth-ranked Tampa. She led her team to a cumulative .316 team attack percentage in the four matches while averaging 14.6 assists, 2.07 digs, 0.83 blocks and 1.07 kills per game. She hit at a .394 mark individually. Martinez set the Ospreys to a .328 team attack percentage versus Tampa while charting 75 assists and five kills. She tallied 48 assists with a .304 team attack percentage in a 3-0 win against NCAA Division I Jacksonville. Martinez added 42 and 54 assists versus UNC Pembroke and Francis Marion, respectively. She set the school assist mark last week and now has 5,117 in her career. Martinez is the second Osprey to win the national award in school history. The North Florida head coach is Bryan Bunn.
