No. 13 MSOE Falls Twice in Saturday Contests

Milwaukee, Wisc. - The MSOE Raiders men's volleyball team lost two matches on Saturday, the first to Quincy and the second to NAIA No. 5 St. Ambrose.

Against Quincy, the Raiders lost in three sets, 30-24, 30-28 and 30-25 in favor of Quincy.

Freshman middle hitter Chris Reininger (St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's) led the way for the Raiders with 11 kills, a new career high. Reininger had an attack percentage of .429 for the match. Junior outside hitter Bryce Kingsley (Middleton, WI/Middleton) and junior middle hitter Dan Goray (Addison, IL/Addison Trail) each had ten kills. Goray also had three service aces.

Sophomore setter Chris Brandt (Darien, IL/Hinsdale South) had 35 assists for MSOE. Brandt also led the Raiders with two solo blocks. Leading the way defensively for MSOE was sophomore libero Jon Holzbauer (Menomonee Falls, WI/Pius XI) who had 19 digs.

With the loss, MSOE falls to 3-7 overall on the season. Quincy improves to 11-10 on the year. Peter Coley led the Hawks with 13 kills and 12 digs. Ivan Shirokov recorded 35 assists.

In its second match on Saturday, the Saint Ambrose University Fighting Bees, ranked No. 5 in the NAIA national poll, defeated MSOE Raiders in three straight sets by the scores of 30-27, 30-21 and 30-26.

The Raiders were led by freshman middle hitter Chris Reininger (St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's) with ten kills and one service ace while carrying a .318 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Chris Brandt (Darien, IL/Hinsdale South) hit .600 (3 kills, 0 errors, 5 attempts) while dishing out 33 assists on the night.

The Raiders set their sites on Boston as they travel out east Feb. 22-28 for their winter break trip. Their next game is at WIT on Saturday, Feb. 23. Game time is slated for 6pm.
