Melanie Jude, a 5-8 junior setter for 19th-ranked Minnesota State University (17-8, 7-4 NCC), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week after leading the Mavericks to two North Central Conference wins, including an upset of 14th-ranked Augustana (S.D.). Jude nearly posted a quadruple-double with 63 assists, nine kills, eight digs and eight blocks in the 3-2 win over Augie. The 63-assist effort was a career high for Jude and ranks sixth on the MSU single-match list. Her blocking effort of eight was also a career best. Jude dished out 43 assists, collected eight digs and served up two aces while guiding the Mavericks to a .348 team hitting effort in a sweep of South Dakota State. She averaged 13.25 assists, 2.00 digs, 1.38 kills and 1.38 blocks over the course of the eight games. Jude directed the MSU offense to a .269 team hitting percentage, bettering the season percentage of .220. She also bettered her season assist average of 11.47 by over an assist per game. The Minnesota State head coach is Doug Tully.
