DIII No. 12 Eastern Mennonite Splits Two on Saturday

Lancaster, Pa. - The Eastern Mennonite University men's volleyball team dispatched of Lancaster Bible in three games in the first match of the day, but was later defeated in three by Philadelphia Biblical as EMU stands at an even 4-4 on tye year following this weekend's action.

Game scores for Lancaster Bible were, 30-20, 30-23, and 30-16. Game scores against Philadelphia Biblical were, 30-16, 30-26, and 30-27.

"The team fought well but again we had to have people play out of position due to injuries and sickness," commented EMU head coach Steve Benson. "We had only two people playing in their natural positions and it was hard for them to find a rythem against a much improved PBU team."

The visiting Royals were led by freshman middle Frankie Coto (Miami, Fla./Southwest Miami) who paced the team with 16 kills, two block assists, and a solo block while senior Calen Hochstetler (Orange Co., Calif./Palomar C.C.) had another 11 kills for EMU against Lancaster Bible. Coto added another team high 12 kills against Philadelphia Biblical while Hochstetler recording eight kills and eight digs against the Crimson Eagles.

Senior setter Ben Yoder (Lederach, Pa./Christopher Dock) totaled 72 assists in the two matches with freshman Elliott Warriner (Herndon, Va./Westfield) registering 15 kills combined.

The Royals will look to heal and rest up for next weekend's Nazareth Tournament where EMU is schedule to go up against the University of California-Santa Cruz and host Nazareth, both of which are ranked in the top 15 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
