No. 5 Pepperdine Rebounds With Defeat of No. 15 UC San Diego
La Jolla, Calif. - LA JOLLA, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Pepperdine men's volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 30-28, 30-26, 30-23 sweep at No. 15 UC San Diego on Friday night in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.
Pepperdine improved to 5-3 overall and 5-3 in the MPSF and improved to a perfect 33-0 all-time against UC San Diego (3-6, 1-6).
Senior setter Jonathan Winder (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS), the reigning national player of the year, had 37 assists and seven digs and led the Waves to a .360 hitting percentage.
Junior outside hitter J.D. Schleppenbach (Ventura, Calif./Ventura HS) had a team-high 12 kills, while junior outside hitter Matt McKee (Aurora, Ill./Aurora West HS) and freshman outside hitter Cory Riecks (Auburn, Calif./Placer HS) each had 10.
The Waves were again without All-American opposite Paul Carroll (Forster, Australia), who missed his sixth consecutive match with a fractured hand. The Waves are 3-3 without Carroll.
Up next, the Waves continue their four-game road stretch when they travel to face UC Irvine on Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 7 p.m.
