No. 9 IPFW Wins Third Straight With Win Over Rutgers-Newark

Fort Wayne, IN - No. 9 IPFW ran its current winning streak to three with a, 3-0 win over Rutgers-Newark on Saturday night at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center.

IPFW had to work overtime to win game one, 32-30, but took the next two easily, 30-21, and 30-20.

Rutgers-Newark (2-3) held a pair of game points in the first, but couldn't deliver.

IPFW fought off both, and senior middle Josh Stewart put the 'Dons up, 31-30 with one of his five kills in the match.

The Mastodons would win on the next point as the Scarlet Raiders suffered a hitting error.

IPFW head coach Arnie Ball was able to work his entire lineup into the match.

Freshman Darryl Shank responded with three kills and three digs.

Senior Dan McNerney came on and put up 4.5 points on a pair of kills, two service aces, and a block assist. McNerney also registered nine assists.

Senior outside hitter C.J. Macias led the 'Dons with nine kills. He also had three digs and five block assists.

Sophomore outside hitter Nate Stott led the Scarlet Raiders with a match-high 11 kills.

With the win, IPFW improves to 3-2. The Mastodons return to MIVA action on Friday night at Quincy. First serve is 8:30 p.m.
