Katie Smith, a 6-1 senior middle blocker for Greensboro College (27-6, 13-1 USA South Athletic), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week as The Pride won all four matches. Smith hit .508 on 120 attacks while averaging 5.72 points, 4.69 kills, 1.31 blocks and 0.56 digs per game. She hit .529 with 11 kills, three aces and four blocks in a three-game win over Methodist. Smith tacked on a .684 attack percentage with 15 kills and three blocks in a three-game win over Roanoke. She contributed 24 kills, a .395 attack percentage, eight blocks and five digs in a five-game win over Christopher Newport. Smith ended the week with 25 kills, a .537 hitting percentage, six blocks and three digs in a five-game win over Averett. She broke the school record for career kills during the week. Smith hits .468 this season with averages of 4.62 kills and 1.38 blocks per game. She is the first Pride player to receive the national honor. The Greensboro head coach is Jean Lojko.
