Courtney Peters, a 6-0 senior middle blocker for Averett University (14-5, 5-2 USA South), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. Peters averaged 6.8 points, 5.9 kills, 0.8 blocks and 0.4 aces per game while hitting .733 in three matches last week. She tallied 16 kills on 21 attempts versus Peace on Sept. 28. Peters connected for 17 kills and three blocks while hitting .667 in a sweep of Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 1. She attacked at an .833 clip versus Emory & Henry on Oct. 1 with 26 kills on 30 attempts (one error), four aces and three blocks. For the week, she tallied 59 kills on 75 swings. Peters attacks at a .492 rate on the season with per game averages of 3.9 kills, 1.07 blocks and 0.49 aces. Peters is the second Cougar to win the national honor as Brenda LaFlamme was named on Sept. 29, 1997. The Averett head coach is Danny Miller. |
