Elena Drinka, a 5-11 junior middle blocker for eighth-ranked New York University (11-2, 0-0 UAA), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. Drinka paced the Violets to a 4-0 week with averages of 5.90 points, 4.13 kills, 1.60 blocks, 0.60 digs, 0.67 aces per game while hitting .365. She opened the week by hitting .600 against Nazareth with 10 kills, three aces and two blocks in three games. Drinka chipped in 12 kills and three aces while attacking at a .348 clip versus Geneseo. She produced a week-high 22 kills on a .425 attack percentage with eight blocks in a four-game win over Ithaca. Drinka charted 13 blocks, 18 kills and 29.5 points versus 23rd-ranked SUNY Cortland. She averages 4.86 points, 3.84 kills, 0.98 blocks and 0.39 aces per game while hitting .389 for the season. Drinka, who also earned the award on Sept. 27, 2004, is the only Violet honored with the national recognition. The New York University head coach is Ed Caesar.
