Whitney Smith, a 6-2 right side/opposite hitter for top-ranked Washington University in St. Louis (8-0, 0-0 UAA), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. Smith paced the Bears to four sweeps over top 15 teams by hitting .600 on 75 attacks with 5.17 points, 4.08 kills, 0.92 blocks and 0.17 aces per game. She hit .421 with 10 kills and five blocks against fourth-ranked Wittenberg. Smith added 12 kills on a .476 attack percentage in the Bears win over 13th-ranked Central. She charted 13 kills on a .765 attack percentage against 10th-ranked Ohio Northern. Smith concluded the week versus ninth-ranked Mount St. Joseph with 14 kills on 18 errorless swings for a .778 mark, in addition to three blocks. She increased her season's averages to 4.50 points, 3.50 kills and 0.83 blocks per game as her attack percentage rocketed to .553. Smith is the 13th different Bear to earn 18 total national player of the week honors. The Washington University head coach is Rich Luenemann.
