No. 7 Matadors Run Win Streak To Three With 3-0 Sweep Over Pacific
Northridge, Calif. - Redshirt freshman Cody Loe knocked down a team-high 13 kills, Eric Vance added 12 and Tanner Nua chipped in 10 as seventh-ranked Cal State Northridge defeated Pacific 30-25, 30-25, 30-20 in an MPSF match on Friday at The Matadome.
With the win, the Matadors improve to 6-2 overall and run their MPSF record to 4-1. With four wins in its first five conference matches, Northridge is off to its best start in the MPSF since the 1995 season. With the loss, the Tigers remain winless at 0-7 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
Loe, a redshirt freshman from Chatsworth, pounded 13 kills with just one hitting error in 21 swings for a .571 hitting clip. Vance also hit well as the junior posted 12 kills while hitting .348 in 23 attacks. Nua, a true freshman from Palmdale, rounded out Northridge's trio of hitters with 10 kills (.438) while serving a pair of aces.
Sophomore Mike Gaudino matched his career-high with five aces to go with nine kills and five digs and setter Travis Bluemling recorded 44 assists, two kills and two blocks.
For Pacific, Pekka Seppanen knocked down a match-high 15 kills (.379) and Jason Borchin also reached double figures with 12 kills (.200).
The Matadors, who hit an impressive .398 (49-12-93) as a team, out-hit Pacific (.258) and had seven aces while the Tigers were held without an ace. Pacific did have a slight 28-23 edge in digs but Northridge held a 7.0 to 5.0 edge in team blocks.
Cal State Northridge opens up a six-match road trip next Friday, Feb. 1 as the Matadors travel to top-ranked BYU for a pair of key MPSF matches.
