MaryKathryn O'Neil, a 5-11 junior middle blocker for Springfield College (4-0, 0-0 NEWMAC), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. O'Neil hit .450 on 80 attacks last week while averaging 4.96 points, 3.67 kills, 1.50 blocks, 0.67 digs and 0.33 aces per game. She collected 20 kills with a .643 hitting percentage and added three blocks and two aces against Roger Williams on Sept. 3. O'Neil tallied 12 kills, five blocks and two aces while hitting .450 versus Rhode Island on Sept. 2. She provided a balanced attack on Sept. 3 versus Brandeis with seven kills, six blocks and five digs. O'Neil was named the Springfield College Invitational Tournament most valuable player after leading the Pride to a 4-0 record to start the season. She is the second Springfield player (Kerri Camuso on Oct. 9, 1995) to earn the national honor. The Springfield head coach is Joel Dearing.
