Kara Liefer, a 5-11 junior setter for sixth-ranked Washington University in St. Louis (19-4, 7-0 UAA), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week after leading the Bears to four wins in the UAA Round Robin. Liefer averaged 11.56 assists, 2.89 points, 2.22 kills, 0.67 blocks and 1.44 digs per game. She helped the Bears to a .398 team attack percentage over the course of the four matches, including an individual .548 hitting percentage. Liefer paced Washington University to a .481 team attack percentage against previously undefeated and top-ranked New York University on Oct. 16. She turned in 30 assists, five kills, three blocks and four digs in the victory. Liefer added 38 assists, seven kills and five digs versus Chicago on Oct. 17 as the Bears hit .379 as a team. She was a combined eight-for-eight in kills against Case Western and Brandies in a total of three games. Liefer is the 17th Bear to win the national award in school history. The Washington University head coach is Rich Luenemann.
