Elena Drinka, a 5-11 sophomore middle blocker for top-ranked New York University (18-0, 0-0 UAA), has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week after guiding the Violets to a 4-0 record last week. She averaged 5.77 points, 4.27 kills, 0.73 aces, 1.36 blocks and 1.09 digs per game while hitting .389 on 90 swings. Drinka was named to the MIT Invitational All-Tournament Team. She record 16 kills, four aces, six digs and three blocks versus 23rd-ranked Springfield on the second day of competition. Drinka concluded the tournament with 13 kills on a .400 attack percentage versus host MIT to go with six blocks, four digs and two aces. She started the week with five kills and five blocks in a single game versus Western Connecticut. Drinka added 13 kills and two aces versus Wellesley, in which she hit .407. Drinka is the first Violet to win the national award in school history. The NYU head coach is Ed Caesar.
