NAIA membership in the AVCA is a little down due to coaches needing to renew. NAIA is continually striving for 70-75%.

Registration is now open for the 2007 AVCA Annual Convention in Sacramento, Calif. Visit the convention page on the AVCA Web site, for more information and to register for the convention. Early deadline for registration is Nov. 2nd.

The Head Coaches Committee will have a meeting at the Convention; if you cannot attend, please try and have someone from your region attend in your place.

Committee Chair: Brenda Williams

Convention registration is up again this year. We need to know how many of the HCC members are attending convention. The HCC meetings are Dec. 12 from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and Dec. 13 from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Dec. 14 is the NAIA General Meeting from 8:30-10:30 a.m., and an additional hour from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Dec. 14 if needed for the general meeting. If you can not attend you need to send someone from your region who will be attending the convention. There is a lot of information to be discussed this yea due to Direct Qualification in 2008.

Recognition Committee: Stew McDole

Stew reminded the HCC that the Recognition Committee is a "think tank", and not the ones who actually choose award recipients. The Recognition Committee has discussed the issue of Libero of the Year (LOY), and says that if we value libero enough to have a LOY, then their valuable contribution should be included in the process of All-America selections. The feeling is that either they need to be included as an All-American, or get rid of the LOY all together. But there is also sentiment that if the libero is to be considered an important part of the team, just like any other position, why separate it out and have a LOY, since there is no outside hitter of the year, middle blocker of the year, etc. There currently is no rule that a conference or region's LOY has to be on their respective All-Conference or All-Region team, but she can.

Also, region rating/recognition is considered beneficial. There has been discussion about "secondary sorting", such as the AVCA Regional Awards produced for the NCAA divisions. The Recognition Committee would love to have recommendations regarding these or any other topics.

Kim Norman (Region 1) informed the HCC that a survey regarding webcasting is going out to coaches after the season. She still would love to have assistance from anyone willing in putting together an AVCA Webcast Match of the Week schedule for next year, similar to what Division III did this year.

Brenda noted she will be attending the PAVO Rules Committee this winter. There is to be major discussion regarding second and third double contact for the future. She addressed concern for more consistency by referees. Let Brenda know of any other rules concerns before she attends the PAVO meeting.

Next NAIA HCC conference call scheduled for Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 11 a.m. ET.

Call adjourned at 12:05 p.m. (ET)
