Jessie Hampson, a 5-11 freshman middle blocker for 13th-ranked Ohio Northern University (24-7, 8-1 OAC), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week for leading the Polar Bears to two wins and a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season championship. Hampson led the Polar Bears in kills, blocks and hitting percentage in both sweeps. She tallied 14 kills, five digs and five blocks, along with a .545 hitting percentage against Otterbein to start the week. Hampson followed that performance with a 17-kill, four-block outing where she hit .615 with one error in 26 attempts versus John Carroll. Hampson hit .583 with 31 kills on 48 attempts and three errors over the course of six games. She averaged 5.17 kills, 1.50 blocks and 1.33 digs on the week, nearly doubling her current season statistics of 2.62 kills per game, 1.50 blocks per game and .299 hitting percentage. She is on pace to set the ONU freshman record for single season hitting percentage. The Ohio Northern University head coach is Kate Witte.
