Amy Brand, a 5-11 junior middle blocker for top-ranked Washington (Mo.) University (30-0), has been selected the AVCA/Sports Imports Division III National Player of the Week. Brand kicked off the week helping the Bears to a sweep of Division II Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and then the championship of its own WU Midwest Invitational. Brand pounded a season-high 16 kills, collected 11 digs and four blocks in a sweep of 14th-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan. She followed the outing with a .560 attack effort (14 kills and zero errors in 25 attempts) in a 3-1 win versus St. Olaf. She added nine digs, seven blocks, three assists, and two service aces. Brand capped the weekend by recording her 1,000th career kill amongst a total of 14 in a sweep of Simpson. She hit .579 for the match and added six blocks and four digs. Brand hit .438, averaged 3.69 kills, 2.12 digs, 1.50 blocks and was named to the all-tournament team.
