Stockton, Calif. - Senior setter Jonathan Winder became the Pepperdine men's volleyball program's all-time leader in assists on Saturday evening as the second-ranked Waves defeated sixth-ranked Stanford, 3-1 (30-20, 30-23, 20-30, 30-20), at Burnham Pavilion.

The Waves improved to 4-0 overall and 4-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and defeated Stanford (5-2, 2-2) for the 14th straight time.

Winder (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS) had 48 assists, nine digs and five blocks and directed the Pepperdine attack to a .310 hitting percentage. He now has 3,952 assists in his career, breaking the record held by Kurt Nelson, who had 3,938 assists from 1997-2000.

The Waves went on the road and swept Pacific and Stanford without junior opposite and All-American first teamer Paul Carroll (Forster, Australia), who injured a wrist this week at practice and was unavailable.

Junior outside hitter J.D. Schleppenbach (Ventura, Calif./Ventura HS) stepped up with a career-high 21 kills, while junior outside hitter Matt McKee (Aurora, Ill./Aurora West HS) added 15. Sophomore libero Sean Grubbs (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor HS/Irvine Valley CC) had 14 digs.

Pepperdine held Stanford to a .184 hitting percentage.

The Waves next host #7 UC Irvine, the defending NCAA champion, on Wednesday (Jan. 23) at 7 p.m.
