Erie, Pa. - A night after dropping a 3-1 decision to No. 1 BYU, the 10th ranked IPFW Mastodons braved lake effect snow to get their first win of the season, 3-0 over Mercyhurst College in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Match at the MAC.

The Mastodons swept the Lakers by the scores of 30-19, 30-19, and 30-25.

Not even an Erie, Pa. snowstorm could cool off IPFW senior opposite Jason Yhost.

Yhost, who had a match-high 29 kills against BYU, picked up right where he left off with a match-high 17 kills vs. the Lakers.

Yhost took 21 swings, making just one error in hitting .762.

IPFW as a team slugged .469 on the night.

Yhost was joined in double-digit kills by senior outside hitter C.J. Macias with 10.

Senior setter Graydon Ainsworth dished out 37 assists, while middles Josh Stewart and Oliver Kook chipped in seven and six kills, respectively.

Junior libero Mike Morici anchored the IPFW back line with seven digs.

Tim Wagner led the Lakers with nine kills.

IPFW outblocked Mercyhurst 9.0 to 3.0.

Stewart had a solo block and four block assists. Ainsworth also had four block assists.

With the win, IPFW improves to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the MIVA.

The Volleydons return to action on Friday and Saturday night at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center, hosting EIVA opponents George Mason and Rutgers-Newark.
