Jon Wintermeyer, a 6-5 sophomore middle blocker for third-ranked New York University (2-0, 0-0 EIVA Tait), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week. Wintermeyer ignited the Violets to consecutive wins over ranked opponents last week while averaging 3.40 kills, 1.00 blocks, 0.60 digs and 0.40 aces per game. He contributed 11 kills on 18 errorless attacks for a career-high 611 hitting percentage against sixth-ranked Stevens Institute on Jan. 21. Wintermeyer added four bocks and an ace versus the Ducks. He charted six kills on a .385 hitting percentage, two digs, an ace and a dig versus 13th-ranked Endicott in two games on Jan. 21. Wintermeyer hit .516 for the week on a total of 31 swings with just one attack error. NYU has started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2002. A Violet has now won the national honor 11 times, the last being Macnair Sillick on March 7, 2005. The NYU head coach is Jose Pina.
