Matt Fritz, a 6-4 sophomore right side/opposite hitter for top-ranked Juniata College (4-4, 1-2 EIVA Tait), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM. Fritz scored 52 points last week to help the Eagles to a four-game win over seventh-ranked Stevens Institute on Feb. 10 before losing to NCAA Division I Princeton in five games on Feb. 11. He averaged 5.78 points, 4.89 kills, 1.00 blocks, 1.22 digs and 0.33 aces per game while hitting .405 in the two matches. Fritz charted 19 kills while hitting .516 against Stevens Institute. He added a career-high six block assists and eight digs in the victory. Fritz recorded a career-high 25 kills against Princeton with a .340 attack percentage. He added three blocks, three digs and an ace in the loss to the Tigers. Fritz holds a .284 season attack percentage with averages of 4.68 points, 4.00 kills, 0.68 blocks, 1.29 digs and 0.29 aces per game. An Eagle has now won the national honor 14 times, the last being Ricky Ziegler on April 11, 2005. The Juniata head coach is Ken Shibuya.
