Alex Carven, a 6-8 senior middle blocker for eighth-ranked Rivier College (15-3, 6-0 NECVA New England), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM. Carven ignited the Raiders to a 4-0 week with wins over NCAA Division II New Haven, 15th-ranked MIT, NCAA Division I Sacred Heart and Emmanuel. He averaged 3.79 points, 3.33 kills and 0.83 blocks per game while hitting .529 in 12 games. Carven hit .762 in a sweep of previously undefeated New Haven with 16 kills on 21 errorless attacks and two blocks. He chipped in 13 kills and four blocks while hitting .542 in a four-game win over MIT. Carven contributed nine kills and four blocks to lead the Raiders to a four-game win over Sacred Heart. He finished the week playing just one game versus Emmanuel with two kills on as many attacks. Carven averages 2.71 points, 2.07 kills and 0.81 blocks per game with a .386 season attack percentage. He is the fourth Rivier player to receive the national honor, the first since Greg Stanton earned the award on March 21, 2005. The Rivier head coach is Craig Kolek.
