Matt Ulmer, a 6-8 senior setter for fifth-ranked Carthage College (10-12, 4-2 MIVA Coleman Division), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM. Ulmer helped the Red Men to an upset sweep of third-ranked UC Santa Cruz on March 25. He averaged 4.33 points, 10.6 assists, 3.33 kills, 0.66 blocks, 1.66 digs and 0.33 aces per game while hitting .714. Ulmer led Carthage to a .349 team attack percentage versus UC Santa Cruz, which is .149 higher than the team's season attack percentage. He contributed 32 assists, 10 kills on 14 errorless attacks, two blocks, five digs and an ace. He averages 2.39 points, 9.09 assists, 1.59 kills, 0.68 blocks, 1.91 digs and 0.13 aces per game this season with a .282 individual attack percentage. Carthage hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering on March 30 in the MIVA Tournament and would advance to play Clarke on April 1 should it win. Ulmer is the fourth Red Man to earn the national honor and the second Carthage recipient this year as TJ Bellei was selected on Jan. 17, 2006. The Carthage head coach is L.J. Marx.
