Andrew Chace, a 6-6 senior middle blocker for eighth-ranked Rivier College (31-3, 10-0 NECVA New England), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the WeekSM. Chace led the Raiders to North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Tournament championship as the second seed last week. He averaged 7.13 points, 5.26 kills, 1.93 blocks, 1.14 digs and 0.71 aces per game in four victories while hitting .516. Chace hit .583 with eight kills, two aces and three blocks in a sweep of Villa Julie. He charted 14 kills, nine blocks, four digs, three aces and a .500 attack percentage in a sweep of Ramapo. Chace provided the Raiders with 26 kills on .585 hitting in a four-game win over D'Youville in the semifinals, in addition to six blocks and two aces. He smacked 31 kills while hitting .449 in a five-game victory over Eastern Mennonite in the championship match. Chace added nine blocks, nine digs and three aces in just missing a triple-double. He averages 5.47 points, 4.08 kills, 1.32 blocks, 0.73 digs and 0.38 aces per game this season with a .421 individual attack percentage. Chace broke his own school record for kills in a season set last year and now has 437 in 2006. He is the fifth Raider to earn the national honor and the second Rivier recipient this year as Alex Carver was selected on Feb. 27, 2006. The Rivier head coach is Craig Kolek.
