No. 7 Cal State Northridge Sweeps No. 8 Southern California to Claim Fifth Place at UCSB/Elephant Ba

Santa Barbara, Calif. - SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior Eric Vance knocked down a match-high 13 kills and senior Isaac Kneubuhl added 12 as seventh-ranked Cal State Northridge claimed its second straight win at the UCSB/Elephant Bar Invitational with a 30-24, 30-24, 30-22 victory over No. 8 USC on Saturday afternoon.

The Matadors improve to 2-1 with the win, while the Trojans slip to 1-2 on the season.

Northridge was effective on the hitting front all match long as the Matadors hit a season-high .402 (52-11-102). Vance hit .344 on his way to 13 kills and Kneubuhl hit a match-high .524 on his way to 12 kills. The senior also tied a career-high with four aces and matched Vance and Andy Pompei with a team-high eight digs. Redshirt freshman Cody Loe added 11 kills while true freshman Tanner Nua contributed eight kills and four blocks (two solo). Senior setter Travis Bluemling posted 43 assists and three blocks (one solo).

USC was led by Murphy Troy (.286) and Juan Figueroa (.133) who each had 10 kills. C.J. Schellenberg added nine kills (.250) as the Trojans hit .211 (35-16-90) as a team.

Cal State Northridge opens up MPSF action next Wednesday, Jan. 9 as the Matadors and Trojans meet again, this time at the Galen Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
