Matt Springer, a 6-3 junior outside hitter for top-ranked Juniata College (3-4, 1-1 EIVA Tait Division), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week. Springer averaged 5.67 points, 5.17 kills, 0.83 digs and 0.33 blocks per game in leading the Eagles to a split of two NCAA Division I schools. He hit .350 with 12 kills, one ace, one block and one dig against 12th-ranked Ohio State University on Feb. 4. Springer turned in 19 kills with a .464 attack percentage in a three-game victory over visiting Princeton University on Feb. 6 for the Eagles first division win of the season. He added four digs, one block and one ace in the victory. Springer raised his season averages to 3.83 points, 3.50 kills, 0.78 digs and 0.33 blocks per game. He lifted his season attack percentage to .364. Springer also earned the national award on Jan. 24, 2005, and is the 11th time a Juniata player has been selected for the honor. The Juniata College head coach is Ken Shibuya.
