TJ Bellei, a 6-6 freshman middle blocker for ninth-ranked Carthage College (5-3), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week. Bellei helped the Redmen to a 3-0 record last week, including a key regional match against 13th-ranked Clarke. He averaged 5.13 points, 3.50 kills, 1.88 blocks and 0.25 aces per game while hitting .458 on 48 attacks. Bellei tallied six kills and seven blocks over two games against Moody Bible on Feb. 8. He hit .438 with eight kills and three blocks in a three-game victory over St. Ambrose on Feb. 11. Bellei contributed 14 kills on a .571 attack percentage against Clarke on Feb. 12. He added five blocks and two aces in the three-game victory against the Crusaders. Bellei averages 2.86 points, 2.00 kills, 0.73 blocks and 0.21 aces per game on the season. He is the first student-athlete to earn the national award at Carthage, which is participating in its first season as a varsity NCAA Division III school. The Carthage head coach is L.J. Marx.
