Matt Janas, a 6-2 freshman outside hitter for second-ranked New York University (4-4, 1-2 EIVA Tait), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week. Janas helped the Violets to a split of two EIVA Tait Division matches last week. He averaged 4.19 points, 3.25 kills, 1.25 blocks and 1.5 digs per game while hitting .415 on 48 attacks. Janas charted a .400 hitting percentage with 10 kills in a three-game loss to NCAA Division I Princeton on Feb. 15. He added four blocks, four digs and an ace in the match. Janas paced the Violets to a key five-game divisional victory over third-ranked Springfield on Feb. 18 as he collected 16 kills, eight digs and six blocks with a .429 hitting percentage. He improved his season-long attack percentage to .382, while boosting his per game averages to 3.70 points, 2.90 kills, 1.10 blocks and 1.40 digs. Janas is the ninth Violet to receive the national honor and first this season. The NYU head coach is Jose Pina.
