Ricky Ziegler, a 6-5 senior setter for top-ranked Juniata College (17-7, 8-4 EIVA Tait Division), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week. Ziegler led the Eagles to two victories last week and the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Division III Tournament championship. Juniata compiled an overall .500 team attack percentage in victories over 15th-ranked Vassar and second-ranked New York University. Ziegler averaged 2.21 points, 12.57 assists, 1.00 digs, 1.00 blocks and 1.43 kills per game last week while hitting a .769 with 10 kills on 13 attacks. He contributed 36 assists, five kills, three blocks, two digs and an ace versus Vassar in the EIVA Division III Tournament semifinals as the Eagles hit .526 as a team. Ziegler charted 52 assists, five kills, four blocks, five digs and two aces in a four-game win over NYU in the championship match. Juniata hit .479 as a team to earn the league's automatic berth into the Molten Division III Men's Invitational Volleyball Championship on April 15-16. Ziegler averages 13.42 assists, 1.74 points, 0.81 kills, 0.85 blocks, 0.99 digs and 0.45 aces per game this season. A Juniata player has earned the national honor 13 times, and Ziegler has earned it three times (also Feb. 16, 2004; Feb. 27, 2005). The Juniata head coach is Ken Shibuya.
