Mike LaRocco, a 6-1 junior outside hitter for SUNY New Paltz (15-7, 8-3 NECVA Metro), has been selected the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Men's National Player of the Week. LaRocco led the Hawks to sweeps of two NECVA Metro opponents, moving his squad into second place in the division standings. He opened the week with 10 kills, nine digs and a .381 hitting percentage (10-2-21) against New Jersey City. LaRocco then helped SUNY New Paltz to avenge a 3-0 loss to Mount St. Vincent in January with a sweep over the 14th-ranked Dolphins. The Hawks won a hard-fought 31-29 first game and then rolled to a pair of 30-22 wins. He tallied 14 kills with just one error in 21 attempts for a hitting percentage of .619 for the match, while adding six digs and an ace. For the week, he averaged 4.17 points, 4.00 kills, 2.50 digs and hit at a .500 clip (24-3-42). The SUNY New Paltz head coach is Ian Walker.
