Bill Schultz, a 6-3 junior outside hitter/middle blocker for 11th-ranked D'Youville College (10-8, 5-2 NECVA West), has been chosen the AVCA/Sports Imports Division III Men's National Player of the Week after leading the Spartans to a 5-0 record and the Endicott College/Northeast Classic tournament and MVP titles. He became the first player in school history to record 30-plus kills with 35 in a 3-2 win over SUNY New Paltz. That performance followed a 20-kill, .630 hitting effort the previous day in sweep of 12th-ranked Ramapo. Schultz closed the tournament with a team-record eight service aces in a sweep of Mount Saint Vincent. He averaged 5.65 kills, 1.88 digs, 1.29 aces and 1.24 blocks over the course of 17 games, while hitting .468 (96-24-154). Schultz was also named national player of the week for Feb. 17, 2003.
