Nate Michael, a 6-4 senior outside hitter for top-ranked University of La Verne (13-5), has been tabbed the AVCA/Sports Imports Division III National Player of the Week after leading the Leopards to a 5-0 record. Michael, who also earned the award back on Feb. 4, paced La Verne with averages of 4.17 kills, 0.83 blocks, 2.00 digs and 0.25 service aces. He tallied 18 kills and seven digs against Cal Baptist, ranked second in the NAIA poll. Michael was credited with three kills in one game against Dominican, followed by 15 kills, four blocks and nine digs against No. 6 UC Santa Cruz. He finished the week with 14 kills and nine digs in a four-game win over second-ranked New York. For the week, Michael attacked a .358 hitting percentage and was held to under .400 in just one match. He was named the most valuable player of the Molten Classic hosted by La Verne.
