Yosleyder Cala - BYU
Sophomore, Opposite Hitter, 6-8 (Ciego Avila, Cuba - Marcelo Salado)

Yosleyder Cala, a 6-8 sophomore outside hitter for then-No. 3 BYU has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week.  Cala's strong play lead the Cougars to two wins over then-No. 12 Southern California last week.  In BYU's Friday night match against the Trojans, Cala scored 13 kills with a .333 hitting percentage, adding a team best seven digs, three aces and four total blocks in BYU's four-game win.  On Saturday night, Cala was even better, as he led the Cougars with 19 kills on 21 attempts with zero errors for a career-high .905 hitting percentage.  He also posted two aces and five digs in the three-game sweep of the Trojans.  For the week, Cala averaged 4.57 kills, a .583 hitting percentage, 1.71 digs and .7 blocks per game.  This marks the sixteenth time a Cougar has been named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week, and the second one this year, as Russell Holmes received the award on Jan. 29.  BYU is coached by Shawn Patchell and Ryan Millar.
