Evan Patak, a 6-8 right side/opposite for then-No. 4 UC Santa Barbara, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Patak led the Gauchos (10-3, 8-2 MPSF) to their first two-match series sweep of then-No. 9 Hawai'i since 1987. In their first match Friday night, a five-game Gauchos win, Patak landed 32 kills on 71 attempts, for a hitting percentage of .268; it was his fourth 30-kill match of the season. He added a career-high 17 digs, as well as three aces in the victory. During the following night's four-game triumph, Patak slammed 18 more kills on 42 attempts for a .286 hitting percentage, while adding five digs, five blocks and seven aces. For the weekend, the 6-8 senior averaged 5.56 kills, 1.11 aces, 2.44 digs and 7.06 points per game, while hitting .274. Patak has now won the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week honor three times, also winning March 1, 2004 and Jan. 31, 2005; it is the eighth time overall a UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball player has won the award. The Gauchos are coached by Ken Preston. |
