Matt Proper, a 6-6 senior right side/opposite hitter for 12th-ranked Penn State University (4-4, 3-0 EIVA Tait), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the WeekSM. Proper led the Nittany Lions to wins over Juniata, ranked first in the CSTV/AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 PollSM, and third-ranked Long Beach State. He attacked at a .509 clip over the two matches while averaging 5.50 points, 4.38 kills, 1.00 blocks, 1.62 digs and 0.38 aces per game. Proper contributed 14 kills, five blocks, six digs and three aces while hitting .417 in a four-game win over Juniata on Feb. 3. He attacked at a .581 mark in a four-game win over Long Beach State on Feb. 4 while contributing 21 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Proper improved his season averages to 5.29 points, 4.25 kills, 0.93 blocks, 1.39 digs and 0.46 aces per game with a .347 attack percentage. He also earned the national honor on Feb. 7, 2005. A PSU student-athlete has won the award 10 times, the last being Keith Kowal on March 7, 2005. The Penn State head coach is Mark Pavlik.
