Jayson Jablonsky, a 6-7 junior outside hitter for third-ranked UC Irvine (10-3, 5-2 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the WeekSM. He sparked the Anteaters to victories over fifth-ranked Cal State Northridge on Feb. 8 and 10th-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 11. Jablonsky hit .449 for the week with averages of 6.29 points, 5.29 kills, 1.43 blocks, 1.43 digs and 0.29 aces per game. He totaled 12 kills with a .417 attack percentage, five block assists and six digs in a sweep of Cal State Northridge. Jablonsky attacked at a .467 clip in a four-game victory over UC Santa Barbara as he compiled a career-high 25 kills, five block assists, four digs and two aces. He scored three consecutive kills to give the Anteaters a 31-29 game-three victory versus the Gauchos. Jablonsky averages 4.64 points, 4.29 kills, 0.67 blocks, 1.69 digs and 0.31 aces per game this season with a .342 attack percentage. An Anteater student-athlete has won the award four times, the last being Kyle Weichert on April 19, 2004. The UC Irvine head coach is John Speraw.
