Chris Gaskill, a 6-4 senior middle blocker for Lees-McRae College (9-4, Independent), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the WeekSM. Gaskill led the Bobcats to wins over Harvard on April 7 and NJIT on April 8 to extend their win streak to four matches. He averaged 4.11 points, 3.44 kills, 1.22 blocks and 0.44 digs while hitting .455 in nine games. Gaskill tallied 13 kills with a .458 attack percentage in a four-game win over Harvard. He added seven blocks in the victory. Gaskill attacked at a .452 percentage in a five-game come-from-behind victory over NJIT with 18 kills, four blocks and three digs. He recorded nine kills on 11 attempts without an error for an .818 attack percentage in games three and four to help the Bobcats come back from a 0-2 deficit against NJIT. Gaskill averages 4.48 points, 3.45 kills, 0.94 blocks and 0.38 digs per game this season with a .419 attack percentage. He has served as a volunteer assistant coach with the women's volleyball program at Appalachian State the past two seasons and recently hired as its second assistant. He is the first Bobcat to receive the national honor, as well as the first NCAA Division II independent school player to capture the award. The Lees-McRae head coach is James Petrik.
