Josh Stewart, a 6-8 sophomore middle blocker for eighth-ranked IPFW (23-6, 9-3 MIVA), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the WeekSM. Stewart captured the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tournament most valuable player award after leading the Mastodons to a five-game win over 12th-ranked Ball State and a four-game victory 10th-ranked Loyola-Chicago, which was ranked eighth at the time of the match. He hit .507 for the two matches while averaging 4.77 points, 4.11 kills and 1.33 blocks per game. Stewart contributed 21 kills with a .556 attack percentage and five block assists against Ball State in the MIVA Tournament semifinals. He collected 16 kills and seven block assists with a .452 attack percentage in upsetting MIVA Tournament top-seed Loyola-Chicago in the championship match. Stewart holds a season attack percentage of .428 with averages of 3.07 points, 2.25 kills and 1.53 blocks per game. IPFW earned the MIVA's automatic bid into the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship set for May 4-6 at Penn State University. A Mastodon has earned the national honor seven times, the last recipient being Jeff Ptak on March 24, 2003. The IPFW head coach is Arnie Ball.
