Matt Proper, a 6-7 junior right side/opposite hitter for sixth-ranked Penn State University (7-2, 2-0 EIVA Tait Division), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Proper was selected the Volleyball Hall of Fame/Morgan Classic most valuable player after leading the Nittany Lions to victories over Springfield College and Brigham Young University. He averaged 4.13 points, 3.25 kills, 1.00 digs and 1.12 blocks per game while hitting .370 for the two matches. Proper tallied eight kills and seven blocks in a three-game victory over Springfield, ranked third in NCAA Division III. He hit .394 with 18 kills, seven digs, two aces and two blocks against fourth-ranked BYU in the classic's championship match. Proper averages 3.53 kills, 1.08 blocks and 1.05 digs per game this season and increased his season attack percentage to .273. He is the seventh Nittany Lion to receive the national honor. The Penn State head coach is Mark Pavlik.
