Jonathan Winder, a 6-8 freshman setter for second-ranked Pepperdine University (14-1, 14-1 MPSF), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Winder paced the Waves to two victories last week against ranked opponents as he averaged 14.25 assists, 0.88 blocks, 1.25 digs and 0.25 kills per game. He set Pepperdine to a .357 team attack percentage during the two wins. Winder provided 42 assists, three digs and four blocks versus 12th-ranked UC Irvine on March 10 as the Waves hit .398 for the match. He produced a career-high 72 assists as he paced Pepperdine to a five-game victory over top-ranked UCLA on March 12. Pepperdine hit .329 as a team, well above UCLA's attack percentage defense of .249 for the season. Winder added three blocks, seven digs, two kills and an ace against the Bruins. He averages 13.54 assists, 0.91 blocks, 1.00 digs and 0.12 aces per game as a starting freshman setter. A Waves student-athlete has earned the national honor 13 times, including three awards this season. The Pepperdine head coach is Marv Dunphy.
